The response is a reference to General Anthony McAuliffe's exact same response when he was surrounded by Germans demanding his surrender in World War II. Fans signed up online and ordered $54,820 worth of peanuts shipped to CBS. The total was more than 40,000 pounds - around 8 million peanuts. The series renewed for a handful of episodes more.
